TLB Challenge & Poker on TV

February 24th, 2009

The Tournament Leaderboard Challenge completed Friday at midnight and really came down to the wire. Unfortunately, a strong push and some impressive late results by our opposition led to us finishing in second place for 30% of the prize pool.

The new season of High Stakes Poker starts Sunday March 1st on GSN. I’m normally not a huge fan of this show but the online preview has got me interested again. If you are interested in watching high stakes cash games on tv I would recommend checking out the latest episodes of Poker after dark on Pokertube.com. This season of Poker after dark has some of the best online plaers including Taylor “Green Plastic” Caby, Cole “CTS” South, and David “Raptor” Benefield.

TLB Challenge & Coaching Update

February 20th, 2009

My team in the 2+2 Tournament Leaderboard Challenge is doing well but really needs 1 or 2 more decent finishes to push us to the top. The contest ends tonight at midnight so hopefully one of my teammates can make something happen. I’ve ran horribly for the 2 weeks this contest has been going on and despite cashing in many tournaments, I never managed any real deep runs or final tables. The most I was able to contribute was a few wins in 180 player sit and go tournaments on pokerstars.

In other news, the player I have been staking and coaching is really starting to come in to his own and is doing quite well. He doesn’t have a very large sample size yet but I am confident he will continue to be profitable while moving up limits. I’ve attached a sharkscope graph of his results since I took him under my wing.

The last few days have been a rollercoaster in variance. I got crushed Saturday and dropped 7 buyins playing 6 max no limit cash games in less than 2000 hands to some ridiculous coolers and suck outs and Sunday’s tournaments didn’t go much better. I slept in and missed the 1.25 Million Sunday Warm Up but woke up in time to donate $215 to the the Sunday Million prize pool which was more than 2.5 Million dollars. I rounded out my session with a $22 1 rebuy & 1 addon tournament but I busted out in the money with 60ish players left out of 1200 starters and never managed to get anything going in FTOPs #24 and was eliminated early on with Ace King of Spades vs Ace King of Hearts all in preflop.

In other random poker news:

The team I’m on in the 2+2 Tournament Leader Board challenge is currently in 1st place. I’m hoping for a few more decent scores to contribute before the contest ends Friday. Sadly my best score so far is only a 180 man Sit and Go win.

Also, a few friends and I have been discussing renting a house for a portion of this summer in Vegas during the World Series of Poker and it looks like that is almost sorted out. The place we’ve decided on is awesome and will be a huge upgrade over being stuck in a tiny hotel room for 2-3 weeks at a time.

This week also was the debut of new seaons of two of my favorite reality shows: Survivor and The Amazing Race. The first episodes of both were pretty good. On Survivor they had a “fake” elimination vote before the game even started which was interesting as nobody knew anything about each other except for first impressions. Jeff Probst has a blog about the first episode here.

The Amazing Race should be good as well. They have usual team combinations of Brother & Sister, Random Blonde Girls ( Ex NFL Cheerleaders this time) as well as some new ones. There is a team of “Little People” ( is that PC? ), A mother and her deaf Son, and a Father & Son Team of movie Writers. The son is Mike White who in his introduction mentioned he wrote “School of Rock“. Not suprisingly, he didn’t mention that he also wrote “Nacho Libre“.

Here is a Cold Play song that doesn’t suck. This brings the grand total of there songs I can stand to 2 or 3.

IE Tester

February 12th, 2009

In my day job I work in web development. One of the most frustrating things I deal with on a day to day basis making sure websites and online applications function & appear the same way in horrible browsers such as Internet Explorer 6 & 7 as well as the best option Mozilla Fire fox. Anyway, there is this tool out now that makes life a bit easier.

“IETester is a free WebBrowser that allows you to have the rendering and javascript engines of IE8 beta 2, IE7 IE 6 and IE5.5 on Vista and XP, as well as the installed IE in the same process.”

You can download it here: http://www.my-debugbar.com/wiki/IETester/HomePage

Misc. Stuff

Misc. Thoughts

- Pepsi should sell Grape Crush in 2 litre bottles or 12 packs. I am tired of purchasing the 24 can variety pack and only receiving 6 cans of Grape. I don’t mind the Orange Crush but seriously.. who drinks cream soda.. ugh.

- The lonely Island releases there cd “Incredibad” tomorrow. Their most recent song “I’m on a Boat” featuring T-pain was just on Saturday Night Live and is pretty funny. I have managed to listen to the entire cd through entirely legal means already and while enjoyable, there is a definate lack of “the heist” and “stork patrol”.

- Shaw Cable sucks. My internet connection has been horrible as of late and is beginning to cost me money. I lost my connection Saturday during the $109 6 max tournament on the bubble and again last night while 8 tabling. Luckily I have a neighbor who has generously provided free wifi access to the public.

- The Vancouver Canucks have now won 2 games in a row after a 9 game home losing streak and Mats Sundin is beginning to contribute. Yay.

- The Grammys. I don’t really pay much attention to who wins the awards and only watched it for the performances which didn’t disappoint. Carrie Underwood was hot. M.I.A was so pregnant she looked ready to burst while on stage with Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne & T.I. performing “Swagger like us”. The best performance was probably Lil Wayne & Robin Thicke doing “Tie my hands” from The Carter III.

- The new season of “Survivor” starts later this week. I don’t understand why I haven’t gotten bored of this show despite watching since season 1.

What I’m listening to:

Mike Doughty - Fort Hood
Incredibad - I’m on a Boat
Girl Talk - Lil Wayne - A Milli + Weezer - Say it ain’t so

January 09 - Poker Update

February 2nd, 2009

January in review.

Tournaments & Sngs:

459 45 & 180 Person sit & gos. Average ROI of 23%. Most of these were 45 mans so a 23% return on investment isn’t too bad. I final tabled quite a few 180 mans but ran horribly once getting there.

I had some good success in regular mtts. I had 3 final tables which included 1st/360 in a $25+2, 4th/1918 in the $25+2 $40,000 Gaurantee and another small final table where I busted early with pocket kings and ran in to a flopped set.

I didn’t play many hands for ring games this month. I think i finished with about 6000 hands of 6max No limit and was down 2 1/2 buyins and about 1500 hands of Pot limit omaha for +2 buyins.

Over all I’d consider it a pretty successful month. I also managed to hit Gold star vip on pokerstars and finish in the top 1000 in the tournament leader board which earns me entrance in to a $20,000 free roll this month.

I’ve also began staking & coaching a friend. He’s started out playing $1-$4 45,90 & 180 man player sit & gos. He had a pretty slow start but has recently gotten the hang of it and has turned things around. After his first 220ish tournaments he is at an average ROI of 30%. I think in February I will have him move up and take some shots at the $6 and $12 tournaments.

My Plans for february:

- I’m participating in a Team tournament leader board challenge on the 2+2 forums so I’ll be grinding hard at in hopes of contributing some good scores for my team.

- Mix in more $27s,$38s and some $60s in to my sets of 45,90 & 180 player sngs.

- Make Platinum VIP on stars. This shouldn’t be a problem as I’m hoping to play more $38 and $60 sit & gos.

- Change my setup. My computer is getting a bit old and should probably be replaced pretty soon. I’m currently using a 20″ monitor & a 24″ monitor. I will probably switch to 2 24″s when I buy my new tower. My desk should also be replaced.

What I’m listening to:

Akon & Sway - Silver and Gold
Jay-Z, Kanye, T-Pain - Go Hard Remix
Fat Joe & Akon - One

Thats it for now.
